New Delhi (22nd November 2023) || Former Indian captain Gautam Gambhir is set to return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming IPL season. He will be the team’s mentor, a role he also played for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2023 season.

Gambhir met with KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan after the 2023 IPL season, and speculation has been rife that he would be returning to the franchise. The KKR CEO confirmed the news on November 22, saying that Gambhir would be joining the team as a mentor and working alongside head coach Chandrakant Pandit.

Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. He is a respected figure in Indian cricket and is known for his leadership skills and his ability to motivate players. His return to KKR is a major coup for the franchise and is sure to boost their chances of winning the IPL in 2024.

Gautam Gambhir was emotional as he bid farewell to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He shared an emotional message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after stepping down from the team.

In his post, Gambhir wrote, “I announce the end of my wonderful journey with the Lucknow Super Giants. At this time, I express my love and gratitude to all the players, coaches, support staff and all the people who made this journey memorable. LSG Brigade wishes..”

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered major blows ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Coach Andy Flower resigned from his position. Flower was appointed as the head coach of LSG ahead of the 2022 season.

Flower’s replacement, Justin Langer, is a former Australian batsman and head coach. Langer was the head coach of the Australian national team from 2018 to 2022. He led Australia to the 2019 Cricket World Cup title.

It remains to be seen how Langer will fare as the head coach of LSG. He will have to work hard to rebuild the team after the departures of Flower and Gambhir.
