President Donald Trump suggests the USA take control of Gaza, demolish it, and build resorts, sparking controversy amid ongoing tensions in the region.

New Delhi, Digital Desk || During a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, USA President Donald Trump proposed that the United States should assume control of the Gaza Strip, demolish the area, and develop it into a tourist destination. His remarks included a vision of displacing two million Palestinian residents amid ongoing efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire in the region.
Trump described his idea as a transformative project, likening it to the creation of a premier resort destination. “I don’t want to be cute. I don’t want to be a wise guy, but-the Riviera of the Middle East. This could be so magnificent,” he stated.
Donald Trump on Gaza Strip: The proposal would place the United States in the center of a long-standing territorial conflict over Gaza, located along the eastern Mediterranean. Netanyahu did not dismiss the suggestion outright. “I think it’s worth paying attention to. We are talking about it,” he said. “I think it is something that could change history, and it is worthwhile really pursuing this idea.”
Trump’s proposal comes as Israel and Hamas navigate the terms of a ceasefire agreement announced on January 15. The ongoing negotiations include efforts to secure the release of Israeli hostages and recover the remains of those who died in captivity. Control over Gaza remains a core issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Hamas warning of further attacks and Israeli settlers advocating for expanded claims over the land.
Gaza is home to over two million Palestinians, many of whom have lived there for generations. Trump’s plan disregards that history, suggesting U.S. ownership instead. He also pointed to the massive reconstruction effort required in the war-torn region. “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site. Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings. Level it out,” he said.
When asked about the future residents of the proposed development, Trump responded, “I envision the world’s people living there.”
