Former Indian batsman Rahul Dravid will continue to be the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to extend the contracts of head coach Rahul Dravid and other support staff.
New Delhi (29th November 2023) || Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid: The BCCI has announced that Rahul Dravid will continue as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. The decision was made despite speculation that Dravid might be replaced. The BCCI also extended the contracts of other coaching staff members.
Dravid’s contract as head coach expired with the conclusion of the 2023 Cricket World Cup. However, the BCCI held discussions with Dravid after the World Cup and decided to extend his contract. In a statement, the BCCI praised Dravid and NCA head and India’s stand-in head coach VVS Laxman.
Dravid said that the past two years with the Indian team have been memorable for him. He said that he is proud of the culture that the team has established in the dressing room. He also said that the team has a lot of talent.
Dravid took over as head coach after Ravi Shastri’s tenure ended after the 2021 T20 World Cup. His two-year contract expired with the conclusion of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. India lost to Australia in the final of the World Cup.
Dravid’s first challenge in his second term will be the tour of South Africa. India will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests in South Africa from December 10.
